Emery-Rose Assiniboine is a passionate advocate for Indigenous mental health, healing, and self-development. A proud community member of Long Plain First Nation, MB, and Nekaneet Cree Nation, SK, Emery-Rose’s work is grounded in the rich traditions and teachings of her Treaty 1 and Treaty 4 territories.
With a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Social Work from the First Nations University of Canada, Emery-Rose brings a wealth of experience to her work as a registered Social Worker and NIHB Mental Health Provider. Her expertise includes culturally informed counseling, trauma recovery, and fostering mental wellness for Indigenous children, youth, and families. Currently, she is pursuing certification as a Parenting Coach through the Jai Institute for Parenting (expected completion December 2024).
In her career, Emery-Rose has served as a Mental Health Therapist, Guidance Counselor, and Sessional Instructor, tailoring her approach to meet the needs of Indigenous communities. She has designed and facilitated group therapy, community-based programs, and classroom curricula that address pressing issues such as intergenerational trauma, suicide prevention, and grief recovery. Notably, her sewing group program integrates traditional crafts with emotional wellness strategies, exemplifying her commitment to culturally relevant healing practices.
Beyond her professional roles, Emery-Rose is deeply involved in volunteer and community initiatives. She is a board member for Wāsākāmā, a project supporting birth and end-of-life care in Indigenous communities, and actively contributes to workshops like R1ZE and Reviving Indigenous Kinship Experience. She also collaborates with cultural educators to deliver teachings on traditional parenting, regalia making, and First Nations dance.
Emery-Rose’s dedication to supporting Indigenous communities through culturally informed practices, education, and advocacy reflects her vision of fostering resilience, equity, and healing for present and future generations.
